About Insights

Insights is the working notebook of TCIEG, the Transparency and Consent Interoperability Expert Group.

Insights is the working notebook of the Transparency and Consent Interoperability Expert Group (TCIEG). It carries dated commentary, explainers and updates on operational transparency: how an individual and a regulator can see who is accountable, for what purpose and under what authority, before anyone is identified.

The reference material lives on tcieg.org: the Operational Transparency Stack, the Internet Transparency Code of Practice, REALconsent and the standards the work rests on. Posts here explain that material, report where the work stands, and answer the questions it raises.

What you will find here

  • Tech Specs. Plain explanations of the standards that make transparency work together: ISO/IEC 29100, ISO/IEC 29184, ISO/IEC TS 27560:2023 and the Kantara ANCR extension.
  • Notice & Consent. What makes consent real, and how to tell a recorded permission from an informed choice.
  • Operational Transparency. Why transparency has to come before identification, inference and transfer, and what organisations do about it.
  • Interoperability. Where the work is carried, from ISO/IEC committees to the Council of Europe, and how codes of practice connect standards to regulation.
